16 Sep 1918: | Honoured Military Cross, Villers-Bretonneux, For conspicuous gallantry and determination on 4 April 1918 near Villers Bretonneux he lead A Company of the 36th Battalion in a counter attack with exceptional dash and determination in recapturing a position that had been lost earlier in the afternoon. In the face of heavy machine gun and sniper fire he showed utter disregard for danger and his fearless leadership lead to the success of the operation and consolidation of the position by the Battalion. |
