Thomas Osborne and his relatives who served in 1st and 2nd World War
Thomas Osborne my maternal Grandfather b 1893 St Maybn, Cornwell d 1978 Perth Western Australia. Married to Elsie Maguiness 1916 and Father to eleven children. Came out to Western Australia when he was twenty years old.
Enlisted (No.7155) in 1915 and returned overseas to serve in the First World War in Feb 1917 as part of the reinforcement tunneling coy.
Served as a tunneller for the Allies with the Australian Army in the First World War. 2nd Tunnelling Coy 27 Feb 1917
His early days as a clay miner in Cornwell served him well for this task.
He also served in the Second World War Army Citizen Military Forces Perth W.A 1939-1948.
His son, Harold Thomas Osborne enlisted 14/5/1941 aged 16 years. Harold was born in 1924 however he told the army he was born in May 1919 and that he was 21 years old. Harold signed the enlistment form himself where it said Father! He was killed in action in New Guinea and no, he wasn’t 24 years old he was “only 18”. He is buried in Lae War Cemetary and memorial in the Lae, Lae district, Morobe, Papua, New Guinea.

His son in-law Edward (Ted) Wenham b 1913 England, enlisted Northam, Western Australia and served overseas in Egypt in the 2nd World War.
Ted was the son in-law of Thomas and Elsie Osborne married to their daughter Sheila.
