James's parents were Francis Kennedy and Susan Burns. James married Louise Johanna Schmidt in 1913. He was living at Terrors Creek and working as a Tailor when he enlisted on 7 October 1915 in Brisbane. James returned to Australia and initially settled at Nundah with his wife, his occupation was a Tailor.
