Driver Henry John Stanley Bullen (Service No: 913) enlisted as a Private on 26 April 1915 with 12th Infantry Battalion. Private Bullen was attached to 28th Infantry Battalion when he embarked from Fremantle for Alexandria on 29 June 1915 on board HMAT A11 Ascanius. Private Bullen served at Gallipoli Peninsula before serving in France in 1916. He was hospitalised in England with Trench Fever, and embarked for the RTA on 3 March 1919 on the HT Euripedes. Driver Bullen was Discharged on 7 July 1919.
Born in 1895 in Essex England, Harry was the second of three children of Henry Richard Bullen (b1866 in London, England) and Amelia Dellow (b1866 in Hertforshire, England). Henry (a Railways Worker) and Amelia (a Fancy Trimmings Maker) married in 1891 in London, England where they raised their family and Henry was a Porter and Coal Porter.
Harry started work as a Railways Clerk in 1912 in Glynde, Sussex and immigrated in 1914, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Orvieto. Harry worked in Carnarvon WA as a Stockman before enlisting in the AIF in 1915, returning to the region following his Discharge in 1919 and working at Millbourne Station in Roebourne as a Station Hand. In 1925 Harry was a Labourer in Perth when he married Ethel Mary Crouch (b1902 in Perth, WA). Harry was Owner and Publican of the Mt Helena Tavern in Mundaring WA when he died in 1928. Ethel died in 1935.
