Died on this date – 9th May…… Reginald Henry North was born at Hayling Island, Hampshire, England on 26th June, 1892.
According to information provided by his father for the Roll of Honour – Reginald came to Australia when he was 21 years of age.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 19th February, 1916 as a 22 year old, single, Farm Labourer from Katanning, Western Australia.
Private Reginald Henry North, Service number 5397, embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia on HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 17th April, 1916 with the 16th Infantry Battalion, 17th Reinforcements.
On 2nd May, 1916 Private North was admitted to Ship’s Hospital with Measles & Pneumonia.
Private Reginald Henry North died on morning of 9th May, 1916 at Sea on board HMAT Aeneas (A60) from Measles & Pneumonia.
He was one of four to die on the voyage on HMAT Aeneas.
Later that day Private Reginald Henry North was buried at Sea from HMAT Aeneas (A60). He is commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton, Hampshire, England as he has no grave. His death is acknowledged by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
