25 Jun 1915: Enlisted AIF WW1, Private, 335, 19th Infantry Battalion, Place of enlistment - Liverpool, New South Wales
25 Jun 1915: Embarked AIF WW1, Private, 335, 19th Infantry Battalion, Embarked on HMAT 'A40' Ceramic from Melbourne on 25th June 1915, disembarking Egypt.
14 Nov 1916: Honoured Military Medal, "During the attack on the GIRD trenches, near Flers, on 14th November 1916, this man rendered conspicuously good service. On the capture of the first objective, he was posted with his Lewis Machine Gun on the extreme right flank. He displayed the greatest courage and devotion to duty for a period of 40 hours without relief. He was instrumental in repelling several bombing attacks by the enemy during the night. Throught-out the whole period he displayed a splendid spirit and by his cheery demeanour, kept up the spirits of those around him." Was also awarded the Italian Bronze Medal for Military Valor around the same time.
