Lyle's brother, Leslie, was killed in action in 1916 and is buried on the Belgium/French border. A second brother, Walter John Thomas "Tom" also fought at Gallipoli; he was buried by a bomb somewhere in France, his comrades dug him out but Walter suffered from mental health issues for the rest of his life - he was a patient at the Mont Park Psychiatric Hospital in Victoria until his death in 1967. There were also several other Blackman cousins and relatives involved in both wars.
