Son of John Vennell and Ada Elizabeth Vennell nee  Pennington of Miriam, Victoria. Brother of John Harold Vennell who was killed in action on 26 August 1916 while serving with the 21st Battalion and has no known grave, his name appears on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial
