Tom Hill was a grandson of pioneer Edward Loud, who discovered slate on his property near Willunga, SA in 1840, beginning an importatnt new industry. At the time of Tom's enlistment at Blackboy Hill, Perth, he had been farming in Albany. Aged 27 and unmarried, when he went to war Tom was 5' 9" (175cm) tall and weighed 162lds (73Kg). He had a tanned complexion, brown eyes and dark hair. After suffering gunshot wounds tohis face on 10 Fune 1918, Tom was sent to hospital in England. He was demobilised on 29 March 1919 and married Florence Edith May Thomson in 1920. When he died in 1960, aged 72 he was living in East Coolgardie WA.
