Military Medal
'On 12th October 1917, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action. This man given an important message to carry from the Front Line back to Battalion Headquarters. The Area he had to cross was swept by an unusually heavy barrage of machine gun and shell fire. In addition to this, the ground was practically a morass, nevertheless he overcame all difficulties and delivered his message promptly. The information it contained was very important and any delay in its delivery may have been serious.'
