John Henry West Swift enlisted with his father during August 1915 and also transferred to the 52nd Battalion in France. He was returned to Australia for family reasons during April 1918.
He had a five-year-old child, his brother 1242 Pte. T.W. Swift 12th Battalion had been killed at Gallipoli, and his father, 3899 Pte. J.A. Swift was killed in action beside him at Mouquet Farm.
