A well-known and highly respected citizen in the person of Mr. Ernest Wallace Mylrea, M:A., B.A., Dip. Ed., passed away at a private hospital in Melbourne on Thursday evening. The deceased, who was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. Mylrea, had lived at Williamstown for a number of years. He was head master of the Princess Hill State school, from which he retired eight years ago. The late Mr. Mylrea was formerly stationed at the following schools:-Queensberry st., North Melbourne; Hyde st., Footscray; East Kew, Kingsville; Terang, and other country schools.
The late Mr. Mylrea held a commission in the army in the last great war, and was a trustee of the R.S. and S.I.L.A. for the scholarship fund for Victoria, past president of the R.S. and S.I.L.A. for Victoria, a member of the Legacy Club, and also a member of the Masonic order. He was the educational in structor of the Melbourne Fire Brigade and carried out this in an honorary capacity. Mr. Mylrea was instrumental in forming the Hyde st. school boys' band.
The funeral took place on Monday from Nelson Bros.' chapel, North Williamstown, and the remains were interred in the presence of a large assemblage of relatives and friends. The funeral cortege passed the Williamstown Town Hall and the Williamstown Soldiers' Memorial Hall, where the flags were flown at half-mast. The cortege halted in front of the Memorial Hall for about two minutes. The Mayor of Williamstown (Cr. T. Briggs), the president and secretary of the Williamstown branch of the R.S.&S.I.L.A., the Fire Chief and his deputy, the president of the Legacy Club, Wor. Master and oficers.of the Masonic Lodge, school teachers, president and officers of the R.S.&S.I.L.A. of Victoria, and many other representative citizens also attended the funeral. The services at the chapel and the grave side were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Jones. At the conclusion of the service at the gravesidem the Legacy club service was held, followed by the Masonic service, and concluded with soldiers' service and the sounding of the Last Post. There was a large collection of beautiful floral tributes. The casket was draped with the Union Jack. The coffin bearers were representatives of the various societies and clubs with which he was associated. Nelson Bros. were the funeral directors.
