Served during The Great War, resting at Minmi Cemetery.
On the Tuesday afternoon of the 9th May 1922, Private Thomas Edwin Griffiths, 13th Australian Field Ambulance (Reg No-927), stockman & drover from 88 Brookman Street, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia and Buchanan, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Minmi Cemetery, age 47 Years 8 Months. Left Hand Side, Section 21, Plot 032.
Born at Lambton, New South Wales on the 13th August 1874 to Alonzo or Alonza, died 6.4.1904, Wallsend Hospital, N.S.W., age 56, buried at Left Hand Side, Section 21, Plot 030, name not inscribed at gravesite, from Newtown, Minmi, New South Wales, and Evelina (Eveline) Griffiths nee Atkinson, died 30.11.1931, 7 Anstey Street, Cessnock, N.S.W., age 87, mother of 5?, no funeral notice located, sleeping at Left Hand Side, Section 21, Plot 030, name not inscribed at gravesite, late of Minmi and Buchanan, N.S.W., Tom enlisted on the 27th September 1915 as Thomas Edmond with the Australian Remount Unit 1, Squadron 4, age 41 years 1 month, at Blackboy Hill, Western Australia.
Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board Transport A67 Orsova on the 12th November 1915.
Disembarked at Marseille, France 3.6.1916.
Admitted to hospital 13.12.1916 (influenza), 7.6.1917 (pyrexia of unknown origin), 12.6.1917 (tonsillitis).
Granted leave to England from 9.11.1918 to 28.11.1918.
Commenced return to Australia 1.6.1919 (Nursing Staff).
Mr. Griffiths’s name has been inscribed on the Boulder Kalgoorlie Roll of Honor.
I have placed poppies at Tom’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
