Son of John Veale and Mary Jane Veale nee Christian of Mount Korong Road, California Gully, Victoria. Brother of William Charles Douglas Veale MC and DCM who returned to Australia on 22 November 1919 having served with the 5th Field Company Engineers.
On 9 November 1918 Percival married Doris Lilian May Holmes in Long Eaton, Shordlow, England.
Returned to Australia on 9 January 1920 aboard HT Megantic
