Percy was the son of Richard Elliott LANG & Rhoda HARVEY and was born on the 12th of October 1890 in Mitcham, SA.

He was the 5th child born into the family of 8 children.

His parents were married on the 30th of March 1882 at the residence of Mr. J HARVEY, Meadows.

His mother was the daughter of James HARVEY & Elizabeth WINTERS and was born on the 27th of June 1862 in Prospect Hill.

His father was the son of John LANG & Penelope Mary HAMLIN and was born on the 8th of December 1855 in Mt Barker.

Percy was 10 years old when the family moved back to Meadows South.

His mother died in 1903 from appendicitis when he was 13 years old.

His older brother; Albert Llewellyn had enlisted into the 27th Battalion, C Company on the 22nd of February 1915.

Percy enlisted into the 10th Battalion, 16th Reinforcement on the 26th of January 1916 in Adelaide and was allotted the service number 5142. Percy was a laborer and was living in Meadows.

Percy embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT A9 Shropshire on the 25th of March 1916.

On the 9th of September he was transferred to the 2nd Divisional Signal Company as a driver.

On the 23rd of March 1917 he was transferred to the 70th Battalion and they were attached to the 17th Infantry Brigade.

The 70th Battalion was disbanded on the 16th of September and Percy was transferred to the 28th Battalion and preceded to France where he was transferred back to the 2nd Divisional Signal Company 2 weeks later in Belgium.

Percy returned to Australia on the 20th of May 1919 on board the Nestor, disembarking on the 29th of June and was discharged on the 24th of August 1919.

Percy married May Constance GASTON on the 22nd of February 1921 in the Church of Christ, Kadina, SA.

May was the daughter of Edwin Burfield GASTON & Harriet Jane MOORE and was born on the 26th of May 1898 in Barossa Diggings, SA.

May had already given birth to a son; Jack GASTON, on the 6th of April 1919.

When May and Percy married, May’s son Jack took on the LANG name.

They welcomed their first child into the family; Harold, on the 5th of November 1921 in New Town, Kadina.

Joan Constance was born on the 12th of November 1922.

They must have moved back towards Lyndoch as the children attended the Barossa Goldfields School for a short period of time.

They moved to Caloote on the 9th of February 1934 and Joan attended the Caloote Primary School.

By 1936 they lived at South Street, Hectorville and Percy was a blacksmith.

Percy died on the 12th of August 1976 in Highbury and was cremated and interred in the Enfield Cemetery; Generak, Row AK, Plot 135.
