Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Informant states that casualty was on board the Transport “Galeka” and went into the boat with Alexander, Dunstan and Junier who were all drowned under the same circumstances as far as the informant knows, as he did not see them again. Informant states that B.Coy of the 7th Battalion had six boat loads set out from the “Galeka” and that only three and a half of these landed. One boat was actually sunk with all on board killed and wounded. 1004 Corporal Joseph Carlile 7th Bn. AIF.

To the Hon Lord Methuen, Governor Malta.

Honourable Sir,

In ignorance of knowing whom to address I beg to be excused the liberty I have taken in addressing you, but I am in deep distress over my son who was wounded at the landing at Gallipoli on the Memorial 25th April, it is reported he was put on board “The Mine Sweeper Reindeer” on the following day, & since that no trace of him can be found. I feel he must have been landed at some Hospital probably Malta.  If this letter may be forwarded to the proper authorities to make enquiries of any Hospital or if he should have died of his wounds, to see if there is any record of him in either country.  I should esteem it a great favour, as the suspense of his whereabouts is most unbearable, his rank was Pte E W Junier No 463, 2nd Infantry  Brigade 7th Battalion AIF. Any information of him will be most thankfully received by his broken-hearted mother, trusting I will get a reply to this appeal, I beg to remain respectfully yours

E Junier.

JUNIER. -Whose death has been officially confirmed, previously reported wounded and missing,
Pte. Edward Wilfred (463, "Dolph"), youngest beloved son of Mrs. Junier, 73 Hall street, Moonee Ponds, and the late C. A. Junier, formerly of Morwell, Gippsland, who fell at Gallipoli on the 25th April, 1915, loved brother of Ernest, Elsie (Mrs. Fordred), Albert, Gus, and Ethel, aged 23 years.

Buried in a nameless grave
Laid aside with other brave,
His life for King and country gave -
My youngest son.
He answered to the Empire's call;
We ill could spare him, one and all,
And prayed God would not let him fall -
My dearly loved son.
But all should fight, and some must die,
He took his chance - my youngest son;
And I can only grieve and say -
Thy will be done.
I kept the home fire burning, but the lad I've
waited and yearned for will speak to me never
again.
