| 29 Jun 1917: | Honoured Military Medal, 'Private HALL is one of the best men in the Battalion. He is invariably cheerful and is cool under fire. At BOIS GRENIER on the night when the 14th Battalion was raided his work is reported by Lieut. WEEDON to have been especially good. Although he had been relieved by the 14th Battalion Lewis Gunners, he immediately, with Private Thompson brought his gun to the front line under heavy fire. At POZIERES he was with his gun in the front line for the whole period (25th July - 3rd August). His gun was put out of action by a shell which buried and wounded all the gun team except Private THOMPSON and himself. During the second period at POZIERES he was buried by a shell and though badly shaken remained with this crew.' Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 103 | |
