Brother of Conrad Gerald Zilles who returned to Australia on 2 July 1919 having served with the 24th Machine Gun Battalion and George Stephen Zilles who returned to Australia on 7 April 1919 having served with the 38th Battalion

Commenced return to Australia on 7 July 1919 aboard HT Chemnitz disembarking on 5 September 1919
