Family oral history records that he was a stretcher bearer in the 1st Batallion AIF and was wounded in no man's land at Mouquet Farm.
After several hospitalisations he returned to Austalia aboud H.T. Benalla and discharged in 1917.
He married Valerie May Gibbs on 19 Jan 1924 and they had one daughter Barbara Jean Baker.
He later had a part-time job as caretaker at Willoughby Girls School in North Sydney.
He died aged 75 on 23 July 1970.
