In the 1901 Census James and Theresa were living in London where James was now an Insurance Agent. By 1911 James Snr was living on his own in London and stated his occupation as Lecturer. This NCO showed great coolness and indifference to danger and rendered invaluable service in maintaining telephone communication during the periods the battalion has been in the line'. (Australian War Memorial). Philip was KiA on 9 October 1917. Brother Richard (Service No:52005) also served in WWI.
