Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
William Thompson was the brother of 2034 Lce. Cpl. Peter Alexander Thompson 53rd Battalion AIF, who was killed in action at Fromelles 19 July 1916, aged 25. They were the sons of Peter and Mary Ann Thompson, of North Logan, Cowra, New South Wales.
William suffered a gun shot wound to the shoulder at Pozieres on 27 July 1916 and was evacuated to England. He was sent back to France in late 1916 and was wounded again in the right arm during February 1917. He was again evacuated to England and this time spent about nine months recovering before he rejoined the 18th Battalion in Belgium in October 1917. He was reported as killed in action near Morlancourt on the 19 May 1918, and his mates stated he was buried in the field. In his service file it is recorded he was buried at the No.2 Military Cemetery, Heilly. However, his grave was subsequently lost.
