David Daniel Goodyear

David (Dave) Goodyear was born to Thomas and Mary (Davis) Goodyear at Wilson Downfall and later lived in Liston/Wilson's Downfall area which is near Stanthorpe, Queensland 20/02/1893. David Daniel Goodyear for "Dave "as he was always known was 21 when he enlisted for military service. Dave and his brother Samuel were both in the 26th Battalion.

While fighting in France Dave received a gunshot wound on 05.08.1916 and then again 18.11.1916. One of his injuries was to the right shoulder which caused severe damage to the brachial plexus (the brachial plexus means a network of nerves that supply the upper limb arm, forearm and hand) which affected him the rest of his life .

He was invalided to England where he met and married one of the nurses who nursed him with his injury. Dave married Emma Lilly in Croydon, Surrey in 1917 . Their daughter Margaret was born in 1918. Dave returned to Australia and it is not known if Emma and Margaret ever came to Australia but when he returned to Australia he lived with his mother and father. He later lived alone in Liston until his death in 1954.
