Percy was the son of Edward and Hanora Stone of Tempe, New South Wales.
He enlisted in December 1915 on the same day as his brother, 5454 William Daniel Stone and they were given consecutive regimental numbers in the 13th Battalion.
Percy was transferred to the 1st Light Horse Regiment during July 1916. His brother, W.D. Stone, stayed with the 13th Battalion and was killed in action at Stormy Tranch, Gueudecourt, France on 4 February 1917.
Percy was wounded in November 1917, bullet in the right hand, and was out of action for several months.
He returned to Australia during July 1919.
