3 May 1917: Honoured Distinguished Conduct Medal, For conspicuous gallantry and ability in attack on the tramway north of the Hindenburg Line, Favrieul on 3 May, 1917. After all officers had become casualties he assumed command of his company and held his position until ordered to retire, which he did in an orderly manner, showing high qualities of leadership. His action was most valuable as it gave ample time for the consolidation of the first objective.
