Private Frank Wardell-Johnson (Service No:8036) enlisted in the AIF on 3 September 1917 and was attached to 16th Infantry Battalion when he embarked from Fremantle for Suez on 24 November 1917 on board SS Canberra. On 9 January 1918 Private Wardell-Johnsom embarked from Port Said for Southampton per HMT Kashgar. Private Wardell- Johnson served in France with 16th Infantry Battalion and was WiA (SW to hand) on 8 August 1918. Once recovered from his wounds in England, he was transferred to Australian Graves Registration Detachment in France before embarking from England with 16th Infantry Battalion for the RTA on 19 November 1919 on board HT Ypiringa. Private Wardell-Johnson was attached to 16th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 26 December 1919.

In WWII, Private Wardell-Johnson (Service No:W243601) served with the ACMF - 29 Garrison Battalion - from 21 June 1940 to 15 December 1943.

Francis (Frank) Reginald Wardell-Johnson was born in 1894 in Northumberland England, sixth of nine children of Percy Hugh Wardell-Johnson (b1860 in Essex, England) and Jessie Beatrice Hustler (b1861 in Port Adelaide, South Australia). Percy had immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1869, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Robert Morrison. Percy (a Chemist) and Jessie married in 1883 in Albany, WA - Percy had studied Pharmacy in Adelaide and established a Chemist Shop in Albany (1881 to 1890). In 1890, Percy and Jessie took their children to England, where Percy studied Medicine, returning in  1894 to York, WA before moving back to Albany where Percy was a Medical Practitioner. In 1904 Percy and Jessie moved their family to Perth, where Percy was a Medical Practitioner and Chief Medical Officer. 

Frank was a Farm Hand when he enlisted in the AIF in 1917, returning to Perth following his Discharge and working in the 1920's as a Farmer and from the 1930s as a Gardener. Frank died in 1976.
