Let us remember a Fallen soldier of The Great War memorialised at Sandgate Cemetery.

On the 2nd May 1917, Private Robert Fallins, 20th Battalion (Reg No- 423A), clerk from "Locknagar", Waratah Street, Kahibah, New South Wales, was Killed in Action when hit in the arm by exploding Mill's Bombs, Bullecourt, France, age 23.

No Roll of Honour circular submitted.

Born at Kahibah, New South Wales ? ? 1892 as FALLEN to John (died 1.9.1931, 5 Queen's Road, New Lambton, N.S.W., age 79), and Mary Fallins (died 1.12.1915, Kahibah, N.S.W., age 58, mother of 8, Robert enlisted on the 15th January 1916 with the 34th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916.

Admitted 5th Australian Field Ambulance 22.11.1916 (bronchitis).

Wounded in action - 2.5.1917.

Reported Wounded & Missing 2.5.1917.

Court of Enquiry 9.9.1917 states KIA.

Robert is resting at Queant Road Cemetery, Buissy, Nord Pas de Calais, France. Plot III Row H Grave 32.

Place of Association - Kahibah, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. Fallins’s name has been inscribed on the Charlestown Public School Honor Roll and the Kahibah Roll of Honor. Name not inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised Fallins gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of their son Robert for God, King & Country. CATHOLIC 1-M Com. 32.

Younger brother James Thomas (born 26.4.1894, Merewether, New South Wales (to James & Margaret Fallins?), mine surveyor from Kahibah, New South Wales, enlisted 1.3.1916, 1st Australian Pioneer Battalion, Reg No-2103, wounded in action - 25.8.1918 (gassed, mild), invalided to England 28.8.1918, RTA 14.3.1919, not officially commemorated, died?) also served 1st A.I.F.

Younger brother William Joseph (born 20.1.1896, Merewether, New South Wales, inspector's assistant from Kahibah, New South Wales, enlisted 7.5.1918, New South Wales Reinforcements, Reg No-59408, RTA 24.10.1919, 13th Australian Field Artillery Brigade, died 14.7.1932, age 36.
