A man of the sea.
Hubert Henry Grace followed his great grandfather to John Silvester to sea in a career to saw him travel the world.
Records show that he was first in Australian waters during 1911 with many voyages between England and Australia over the next few years.
At the outbreak of WWI he enlisted in the AIF on December 11, 1914.
In gained his First Mate Certificate in 1915. His Certificate of Competency - Master steamships in 1919. The UK Navy Lists recorded his rank as Lieutenant in 1917.
In July of 1940 when first officer on the "Arandora Star" a single torpedo ended the lives of over 800 men off the neat west coast of Ireland. The "Arandora Star" was transporting prisoners to Canada when she was hit.
