Henry William Dietman

Henry William Dietman was born 27 July 1899 at Willmington, son of Henrey Charles Dietman and Lydie Hinks.

On the 12 June 1914 he married Olive Vera Dicker, sister to Frank Arthur Allen Dicker.

He enlisted 29 October 1917 aged 28 years 3 months. He was married with 3 children and living at “Hills View”, Adelaide Road, Gawler South. Henry enlisted 3 months prior to the birth of his fourth child. Henry occupation signalman, height 5 feet 81/4 inches, weight 165 lbs, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair and tattoo to the right forearm. Religion Church of England.
On the 9 November 1917 from Melbourne he boarded the HMAT “Sydney” to Southampton via Suez. On the 22 September 1918 he arrived in France, after spending the previous time in England. He arrived back in England 19 February 1919 for medical treatment. On the 2 April 1919 he was sent back to Australia.
Discharged 8 June 1919, total service 1 year 223 days, with overseas duty of 1 year 189 days. Rank: sapper with 5th Broadgauge Railway Operating Company.

By 1922 the family had moved to Solomantown where 4 more children were born.

Henry died 14 January 1961 and buried in Port Pirie in the Protestant section.
