FATHER IN THY GRACIOUS KEEPING LEAVE WE NOW OUR LOVED ONE SLEEPING
The personal interests of the residents of Robertson in the great war were keenly realised on Monday, when the tidings were received that the name of Private George Schuhmann, son of Mrs. A. Schuhmann, Robertson, had been added to the roll of honor of those who have given their lives for their King and Country. Of splendid physique, the deceased was a typical sample, of the Australian soldier, and when the call to arms was heard, immediately after the struggle commenced, he was one of the first to enlist. His great desire was gratified, and the opportunity of engaging in the conflict on European soil was eagerly seized upon. Great sympathy is felt for the members of the bereaved family, but grief is brightened by the knowledge that greater honor can come to no man than that he laid down his life in a righteous cause, and in upholding the honor of his native land. The deceased was 28 years of age, and was killed in action on July 8th. Be was a member of the 13th Battalion, took part in the landing at Gallipoli, and went through that campaign. Shortly before the evacuation he was resting at Lemnos. The Rev. J. F. Schwegler will conduct a memorial Service for the late Pte. Schuhmann at St. John's CE., Robertson, on Sunday evening next, at 7.30.
