73 years ago today, on the Monday afternoon of the 28th May 1951, Private Alfred Joseph Hindley, 36th Battalion (Reg No-2320), mine surveyor from Railway Street, Teralba, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 61. ANGLICAN 1-15. 120.

Alfred had passed away suddenly on the 25th May 1951 at the Concord Military Hospital, Concord, N.S.W.

Born at Greta, New South Wales on the 6th April 1890 to Robert Snr, died 17.6.1920, Teralba, N.S.W., age?, buried at ANGLICAN 1-6. 130, and Mary Hindley, died 22.9.1926, Teralba, N.S.W., age?, mother of 7, sleeping at ANGLICAN 1-6. 130, from Railway Street, Teralba, N.S.W.; husband of Ruth (Dorrie) Doris Hindley nee Rae (married 1927, Newcastle, N.S.W., died 11.8.1968, Hamilton, N.S.W., age 70, sleeping at ANGLICAN 1-15. 118), Alfred enlisted on the 19th May 1916 at Boolaroo, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 17th October 1916.

Admitted to hospital 24.7.1917 (influenza, severe).

Invalided to England 27.7.1917.

Commenced return to Australia 7.6.1918.

Alfred arrived home on the 1st August 1918, being discharged medically unfit (bronchitis) on the 24th September 1918.

Mr. Hindley’s name has been inscribed on the Teralba Soldiers' Memorial and the Teralba Public School Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at Alf’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
