Private Harold Hill Goldsworthy (Service No:508) enlisted in the AIF on 25 May 1914, and was attached to 4th Infantry Battalion on 20 October 1914 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Gallipoli on board HMAT A14 Euripides. Private Goldsworthy was hospitalised in Alexandria with a hip injury, and embarked from Suez on 1 October 1915 for Melbourne on board HT Euripides. Private Goldsworthy was attached to 4th Infantry Battalion at Discharge (Medically Unfit - osteo arthritis in hip) on 14 March 1916. He then served with the Home Service as a Sergeant in October/December 1916.
Harold was born in Goulburn, New South Wales in 1885, second of nine children of Alfred Goldsworthy (b1842 in Somerset, England) and his second wife Emma Emmerton (b1862 in Greenwich Park, New South Wales). Alfred worked as a Currier and Metal Merchant in England before immigrating - he arrived in Sydney in 1878 on board the Hero. Alfred and Emma married in 1881 in Murrumburrah via Harden, and lived in Murrumburrah and Goulburn before settling in Sydney in 1890. Alfred worked as a Currier (Leather Worker) and Warehouseman.
Harold was a Baker in Sydney in 1914 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, in Sydney in 1916 he married Ellen May Fisher (b1890 in Narrandera, New South Wales). Harold and Ellen settled in Sydney, where Harold worked as a Labourer until his death in 1942. Ellen died in 1938.
