Biography

Carter John St Clair : SERN 3210  NOK M Carter Charlotte Catherine

John Carter was enlisted into the 7th reinforcements for the 32nd Battalion March 1916.  On arrival in the UK he was transferred to the 43rd Battalion following depot training and assigned to C Company from 8th Training Battalion for service on the Western Front for the remainder of the war.

Wounded in chest at Messines Ridge 7th July 1917.  At the time the Battalion was engaged in carrying parties near the front in support of the 9th Brigade.

Injured accidentally on the 27th July and hospitalised once again.  He had accidentally impaled his foot with a pick while undertaking construction of field defences.  He re-joined the Battalion in December 1917.

He served throughout 1918 without pause and participated in all 43rd Battalion operations during the 'Last Hundred Days' offensive.

He was repatriated to Australia on 18 January 1919.
