Biography contributed by Robert Wight

Albert James Ogier, aged 34, enlisted in the AIF at Kalgoorlie, WA on 2 March 1915. He embarked overseas on 26 April 1915 and arrived in Egypt about a month later. Shortly after that, on 19 June 1915 he embarked for Gallipoli and joined his unit.

On 15 August 1915 he sustained a gunshot wound to his arm and was evacuated to hospital in Egypt, where he remained until 21 October, then returned to Gallipoli. On 26 February 1916, back in Egypt, he was transferred to the 12th Field Ambulance.

He left Egypt for the last time on 4 June 1916 and arrived in Marseilles a week later. He experienced the horrors of trench warfare at Pozieres during August 1916 and afterwards, was promoted to Lance Corporal on 6 September 1916.

He became ill with trench fever on 8 March 1917 and was evacuated to hospital, initially in France and then England, where he remained until 16 May. Thereafter, he remained on duty at No.1 Command Depot at Perham Downs Camp until 22 January 1918, when he was transferred to the Army Medical Corps Training Depot at Parkhouse Camp. On 29 October 1918, he was attached to the Australian Flying Corps at Tetbury for five months.

He departed England on 16 June 1919 and arrived back in Fremantle on 24 July, where he was medically discharged from the AIF on 28 September 1919.
