Resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

93 years ago today, on the Monday afternoon of the 28th March 1927, Private George Adamthwaite, 46th Battalion, labourer from 70 Wilton Street, Merewether (Glebe), New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 31. METHODIST 1 (WESLEYAN) B SW. 22.

Born at Merewether, New South Wales on the 13th February 1896 to William and Mary Jane Adamthwaite, George enlisted September 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

His name has been inscribed on the Merewether (Mitchell Park) Memorial Gates, Merewether Public School Roll of Honor and the Merewether Rechabites' Tent No. 32 Roll of Honour.

There is no indication on Mr Adamthwaite’s headstone of his service with the 1st A.I.F., so today we remember his sacrifice for God, King and Country.
