No known NSWGR employee card survives for William FOX, (Service Number 579) who appears as a railwayman on the 1921 Honour Roll, but he was probably the 33-year-old Scottish-born labourer who enlisted in the AIF at Liverpool in July 1915, with 12 years previous service in the Royal Marines. He was probably the labourer of that name who worked on the Waterfall to Otford deviation. Per-Way and construction employees are less likely to have record cards, so this fourth man was probably the man who enlisted.
On 20th September 1917 he was killed in action in Belgium. He has no known grave but is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
