"OBITUARY Mr. H. H. Griffith
Many Manildra residents were sorry to learn that a former well known and highly respected native of the district, Mr. Hubert Henry Griffith was accidentally killed on his property, Yamma, Forbes, on Saturday last. Mr. Griffith had set out to shoot crows before dinner. When he failed to return for the meal, members of his family became alarmed, and a search was made. It was ascertained that his loaded pea-rifle had accidently discharged whilst he was climbing a fence, death being instantaneous from the bullet which entered his head. He was a native of Manildra, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Griffith, well known old residents of the town. The late Mr. Griffith was in business here as a storekeeper for many years, the deceased Hubert Griffith, being in the business with his father. The late Mr. Griffith saw service in World War I, and soon after his return went in for grazing pursuits in the Forbes district, where he had resided up till his death. He was prominent in many organisations and was at one time President of the Shire Council in that vicinity. Besides his widow and family of two sons and a daughter to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and fond father, the deceased, who was 56 years of age, is survived by one brother and four sisters: Mr. Harold Griffith (Forbes), Mesdames C. G. Miller (Manildra), Odewahn (Walla Walla), A. Gosper (Manly), and L. Paddison (Baradine). His parents predeceased him, his father in England whilst on war service in 1914-1918, and mother at Manildra four years ago." - from the Molong Express 31 Oct 1947 (nla.gov.au)
