Summary of Service
Date of Birth 1 January 1891, Charles Lord first enlisted on 29 May 1915 at age 24 years and was made a 2nd Lieutenant. At the time of enlistment he was a Commonwealth Public Servant, married to Ethel and lived at 10 Derby St. Kew
He was assigned to the 6th Brigade, 21st Battalion and left Melbourne on board the HMAS Moldavia on 5 October 1915 and went to Suez and Egypt. He was admitted to hospital with adhesions and appendicitis and returned to Australia on HMAS Wondilla on 18 Dec 1915.
He was struck off strength for a period and returned to duties on 7 June 1916 and undertook recruiting duties in Australia from 4 October 1916 and then discharged on 7 February 1917.
He re-enlisted on 14 October 1918 and left Melbourne on SS Boonah on 22 October 1918 as unattached Adjutant & Quartermaster for the voyage. The ship had reached Durban, South Africa when armistice was declared and the ship returned to Australia arriving back on 20 December 1918.
He was discharged from Service in January 1919.
