Corporal Frank Alderley Charles George, 1st Battalion from Annandale, Sydney, NSW.

The image is inscribed with handwriting as follows: “Very Sincerely Yours, Frank C George”. (see main photo)

A 20 year old clerk with two years’ service in the 31st Infantry Militia prior to enlisting in the AIF on 22 August 1914. He embarked for overseas service as a Pay and Orderly Room Corporal with C Company from Sydney aboard HMAT Afric #OTD in 1914.

After disembarking in Egypt, the battalion underwent further training before landing at Gallipoli on the morning of 25 April.

Cpl George was killed in action at Kapa Tepe (aka Gaba Tepe) on 28 April 1915 and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
