21 Jul 1918: Honoured Military Medal, Le Hamel - Blueprint for Victory, Private John Richard Norrish who is a Regimental Stretcher Bearer is brought to notice for his gallantry and devotion to duty during operations against VAIRE and HAMEL Woods, East of CORBIE, on the morning of the 4th July 1918 He went over with the attacking waves of Infantry and attended to many wounded men under machine gun fire with a total disregard for his own personal safety. He subsequently made many carries, involving penetration through enemy barrage and machine gun sniping, for the purpose of evacuating wounded men from VAIRE and HAMEL Woods and in front there of, back to Regimental Aid Post. He is strongly recommended for distinction.
