Biographical details:
Cyril was the son of George Teasdale and Elizabeth Watson. His unit, the 3rd Light Horse regiment, 13th Reinforcement, left Adelaide on board HMAT A30 Borda on 11 January 1916. Cyril was admitted to the 1st Australian General Hospital at Heliopolis in Cairo, suffering from enterica (inflammation of the small intestine) on 9 March, after receiving treatment at the Military Infections Hospital. He returned to duty at Tel- el -Kebir, Egypt, until June, when he was ordered to report to the Medical Board. As a result, he was deemed medically unfit due to enterica, rheumatism and arthritis and was returned to Australia on board the Borda from Suez on 17 August 1916 and discharged on 31 October. Cyril was granted a pension of one pound, eleven shillings and sixpence per fortnight from 1 November 1916(1).
Fruit Block Details:
Cyril Watson St.George Teasdale occupied the 9 acres of Block 639, bordered by 639 Telfer road and Stratman road, on 1 December 1921. He planted 1204 doradillo vines, 693 white hermitage, 891 sultanas and 468 currants. Cyril later sold the property to a Mr.Muller. The property was transferred to F.C. Williams on 7 July 1947(2)
Other Anecdotal Information:
He married Ruth Annie Symons. They had two children, both born in Berri; Francis Symons born 16 May 1922, and Ronald Symons, born 9 September 1925. Ronald attended Monash Primary School in 1931.
Ruth and Cyril were involved in the Monash branch of the Fighting Forces Comforts Fund and the Monash Rechabites, where Cyril was installed as Superintendant in 1932(3).Ruth was actively involved with the Ladies’Guild of St.Oswald’s Church. Cyril was the Postmaster at Glossop until the end of November 1921(4).
