1830 Pte Nelson James Sing,
26th Battalion, of Launceston, Tasmania
A boat builder prior to enlisting in June 1915, Pte Sing embarked from Melbourne with the 2nd Reinforcements on board HMAT Orsova (A67) on 17 July 1915. He served at Gallipoli from September 1915 until the evacuation in December and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in March 1916. Pte Sing was wounded in action in August 1916 and after recovery and duties in England rejoined his unit in France in July 1918. Pte Sing was killed in action at Bethleem Farm, near Messines, France on 3 October 1918. He was 21 years of age. The three chevrons on his lower sleeve indicate three years service.
