Henry served in the army and had a Private rank. He was loyal and served for the Australian Defense Force until he was discharged.
Henry Herman Hartog had 10 siblings and in his later life married Ivy Ruby Hartog (born Woodhouse) in 1922, at age 26. During the war he was admitted to Toxteth Park Military Hospital, Liverpool England. 14/10/1917. He suffered from a gunshot wound on his right shoulder.
He returned to Australia in 1919. Henry and Ivy had one daughter, Decima Hartog and they all lived in the town of Bingara, New South Wales.
