Son of John Beaton and Edith Jane Beaton nee Pearce of Coleraine, Victoria. Brother of Herbert Dugald Beaton who was killed in action on 22 April 1917 while serving with the 8th Battalion and has no known grave. His name  appears on Villes-Bretonneux Memorial.

Commenced the return to Australia on 1 January 1919 aboard HT City of York disembarking on 27 February 1919

During 1927c Arthur married Mary C. Millard in Victoria
