Son of George Arthur Viney and Leah Viney nee Treloggen of Latrobe, Tasmania.

Commenced return to Australia on 15 January 1919 aboard HT Berrima disembarking on 17 February 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Hobart

On 8 October 1919 Robert married Alice Charlotte Brockett in St John's Church, Launceston, Tasmania.
