Austral Hunter BURNS was born on 30th May, 1893 in Manly NSW

His parents were Charles James BURNS and Beatrice Alice MOORE

He married Alice Josephine LAURIE in 1914

Austral enlisted with the Australian Army on 31st August 1914 - 1st Battalion D Company - Unit embarked from Sydney on the Transport ship Afric on 18th October, 1914 - his rank at death was a Sergeant in the 53rd Battalion

He was killed in action at the Battle of Fromelles on 19th July 1916 - no known grave - He is listed in VC Corner of the Australian Cemetery Memorial , Fromelles, France & on the Australian War Memorial

His brother in law Private Albert Kingston LAURIE (MM) of the 18th Battalion was also killed in action in 1918
