Biography

"THE LATE CORPORAL W. BARBER.

Mrs. E. C. Barber, of 182, Wright-street, Adelaide, has received the sad news that her husband, Corporal W. Barber has died from wounds received in action in France. Corporal Barber, who was 26 years of age, was educated at the Thebarton Public School. He began work as a conductor on the old horse trams. On leaving the service, when the electric service was initiated, he obtained a position with the West End Brewing Company, with whom he remained until he enlisted. Corporal Barber left Australia in September, 1915, and he was one of the first of the Australians to see active service in France. He was greatly esteemed by his fellow workmen and a large circle of friends. Much sympathy will be felt by his widow and two young children." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 09 Dec 1916 (nla.gov.au)
