He was 25 and the son of Thomas and Sarah Jane Ingleton, of Blackheath, Horsham, Victoria, Australia.

He enlisted in July 1915 aged 24 years and 3 months and gave the address of Next of Kin as 'Warilda', 28 Urquhart Street, Horsham, Victoria.

He embarked 8th February 1916 from Melbourne per H.M.A.T. "Warilda" A 69.

He was wounded in France 15th July 1916-GSW to spine-Lumbar Region and admitted to 13th General Hospital Boulogne on 16th July 1916. On 18th July he was conveyed on H.S. 'Cambria' to England and arrived at the hospital in Ipswich same day.

Charles Henry Ingleton was born at Murra Warra, near Blackheath, Victoria in 1891 to parents Thomas and Sarah Jane Ingleton (nee Holland). 

He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 22nd July, 1915 as a 24 year old, single, Farmer from Blackheath,  Dimboola, Victoria.

Ernest Ingleton, younger brother of Charles Henry Ingleton, also enlisted the same day & was given the service number of 3838. 

Private Charles Henry Ingleton, Service number 3840, & his brother Ernest Ingleton both embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on HMAT Warilda (A69) on 8th February, 1916 with the 6th Infantry Brigade, 21st Infantry Battalion, 9th Reinforcements.

On 14th March, 1916 Private Charles Ingleton was admitted to No. 4 Auxiliary Hospital, Abbassia with Measles. He was discharged on 28th March, 1916.

He was marched in & posted to 6th Training Battalion at Zeitoun on 28th March, 1916.

Private Charles Ingleton was taken on strength with 58th Battalion at Canal Zone on 20th April, 1916 then transferred to 57th Battalion on 26th April, 1916.

On 17th June, 1916 Private Charles Ingleton left Alexandria & proceeded to join the B.E.F. (British Expeditionary Force) on H.T. Kalyan. He disembarked at Marseilles, France on 24th June, 1916.

 

Private Charles Henry Ingleton was wounded in action in France on 15th July, 1916. He was taken to 15th Australian Field Ambulance with shrapnel wounds to his back. Pte Ingleton was transferred to No. 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station then transferred on 16th July, 1916 to 13th General Hospital in Boulogne. Pte Ingleton embarked from Boulogne for England on Hospital Ship Cambria on 18th July, 1916.

He was admitted to East Suffolk and Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich, England on 18th July, 1916.

 

Private Charles Henry Ingleton died on 24th July, 1916 at East Suffolk and Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich, England from wounds received in action in France – Gunshot wound to spine. (Acute assembling Myelitys of cord)

He was buried in Ipswich Old Cemetery, Suffolk, England  – Plot number BA. I. 57 (Field of Honor) and has a Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone.

 

[His brother - Lance Corporal Ernest Ingleton, 3838, was wounded in action in France & wounded in action in Belgium. He was entitled to the British War Medal & Victory Medal & returned to Australia in June, 1919.]
