Births Dec 1892 Drane Alfred Dunmow 4a 625
He emigrated to Australia aged 20.
He was 27 and the son of Moses and Emily Drane, of Church End, Little Bardfield, who chose the following inscription for his war grave:
THE LORD GAVE AND THE LORD HATH TAKEN AWAY
He is commemorated on the memorial in St Katharine’s Church, Little Bardfield. The church, and the war memorial, underwent a restoration programme in 2007. The main tablet is white veined red marble within a wooden surround. Carved and gilded. The flags to each side of the memorial are carved wood, painted and gilded. The 1914-1918 war memorial commemorates one-fifth of the men of military age from Little Bardfield who died in the Great War.
