Son of Duncan and Annie Baxter of Panton Street, Townsville North, QLD formerly of Scotland. Brother of Jane Templeton Walker Lilley of 'Buckie', Croppa Creek, NSW
The sad news is published this morning of the death in action of Corporal Neil Baxter second reinforcements (15th battalion). He was a son of Mr and Mrs D. Baxter, of "Easdale," Paxton Street and had just turned 22 years of age. He was a prominent member of the City Football Club, of the Oddfellows and a member of the Rifle Club. His parents only a fortnight ago received a lengthy diary of the incidents of his voyage to Egypt. He was an adherent of the Presbyterian Church and had a wide circle of friends. Public sympathy is extended to the bereaved parents.

Neil Baxter's father, after trying to settle his son's affairs, enlisted with another son Angus during January 1916. Both were originals of the 42nd Battalion. An old soldier he was made a Quarter Master Sergeant but he died of wounds at the age 48 just over 12 months later.
