Military Cross
'During the attack on the Beaurevoir line, on 3rd October, 1918, he displayed most conspicuous gallantry. When two companies of the battalion were held up by intense machine gun fire, he went forward, and having located a machine gun post, he rushed it single handed and forced ten prisoners, with two machine guns, to surrender. With six men he then proceeded to mop up the trench, capturing a further 22 prisoners, with three machine guns.'
